New Methods for Sampling, Analysis, and Interpretation of Results for the Control of Pesticide Residues in Food and Feed of Plant and Animal Origin

Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/765 of 1 April 2026, concerning methods of sampling and analysis and the interpretation of results for the official control of pesticide residues in food and feed of plant and animal origin, and repealing Directive 2002/63/EC, has been published in the OJEU.

The Regulation is based on the Guidance Document on Analytical Quality Control and Method Validation Procedures for Pesticide Residues Analysis in Food and Feed, developed by the European Union Reference Laboratories (EURLs) for pesticide residues (1).
The purpose of the Regulation is to verify compliance with the maximum residue levels (MRLs) for pesticides in food and feed of plant and animal origin in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, by establishing:

 

  • Sampling methods and sample preparation for food analysis (Parts A and B of the Annex); and
  • Laboratory analysis methods, measurement uncertainty, and the interpretation of analytical results for food and feed (Part C of the Annex).


The collection and preparation of samples for the control of pesticide residues in feed shall continue to be carried out in accordance with the rules laid down in Annex I and Part A of Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 152/2009.

The Regulation shall apply from 1 January 2027.
