The Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/778 had set out the following schedule for the application of additional import duties on certain products originating in the United States of America:

  1. Additional duties of 10% and 25% on products listed in Annex I, effective from 15 April 2025.
  2. Additional duties of 25% on products listed in Annexes II and III, effective from 16 May 2025.
  3. Additional duties of 25% on products listed in Annex IV, effective from 1 December 2025.

However, on 9 April 2025, the United States introduced a temporary ninety-day reduction in additional customs duties from 20% to 10% on imports of products originating in the European Union. This measure was intended to recalibrate its response and allow for the possibility of cooperation and resolution of the ongoing tariff dispute. In response, the European Union adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/786, suspending the application of the additional duties outlined in points 1 and 2 until 15 July 2025.

Following the United States’ decision on 7 July 2025 to extend the suspension of the 20% ad valorem import duty on EU goods—from 9 July to 1 August 2025—the European Union has deemed it appropriate to continue calibrating its response and maintaining opportunities for cooperation in pursuit of resolving the tariff disagreement.

Accordingly, Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1446 has been published today, extending the suspension of the additional import duties on certain US-origin products—initially established under Regulation (EU) 2025/778 and due to take effect from 15 July 2025.
