Fire on Maersk Honam

The company Maersk Line has reported a fire in the ship´s hold of the vessel “Maersk Honam” (FJ806W) operating on the Jade – Far East to Western Mediterranean. According to the information provided the vessel transports a total of 7.860 containers, including cargo belonging to MSC customers.

The incident has been reported en route from Singapore to Suez. The Wednesday 7th of March the vessel has been positioned 900 miles of sea to the South-East of Salalah in Oman. Maersk has also reported that multiple vessels came to assist the “Maersk Honam” from which 23 crew members where successfully evacuated even though 4 crew members are being searched.

Services assisting

The vessel “MSC Lauren”, operating in the Phoenix/Jaguar Service and which was in the area, was diverted to assist, in line with normal proceedings at see.
Likewise, the vessel “Edith Maersk” (Condor Service) and the “Gerd Maersk” (America Service) where also diverted to assist the distressed vessel.

According to the information provided by Maersk Line the reported fire in the “Maersk Honam” is under control and Maersk has declared a heavy breakdown, naming Richards Hogg Lindley (RHL) as the arbitration company for that purpose.
